AIC backs Basque Formula Student teams

Renews agreement to support automotive professionals of the future | 08/02/2011

Bilbao, 8.2.2011--- AIC-Automotive Intelligence Center President and Biscay Chief Executive José LuIs Bilbao was a witness to the renewal, for the second successive year, of the Center’s cooperation agreement with Basque-based Formula Student Teams (Formula Student Bizkaia and Tecnun Motorsport from Guipúzcoa) under which it supports and helps promote the professional of the future in the automotive industry

Renewing the agreement is one way AIC has of providing ongoing support for knowledge, training and research in the automotive industry. In this case, the Center places particular emphasis on the upcoming generations of engineers starting work after graduating from university.

What AIC aims to do through this initiative is to get university students to develop their own vehicles, thus improving their skills and talents in areas such as management, design, production and marketing within the automotive industry.

Furthermore, AIC is looking to ensure Formula Student teams work together to be more competitive, reduce costs and learn to work in teams, a process that helps make their future introduction to the labor market that much simpler.

These engineers of the future are given space at the AIC where they work and also carry out a cooperation initiative designed to optimize their own projects (including potential developments and joint purchases, the design of one-seater cars, a study of Basque products susceptible to being used in their vehicles and so on).

Formula Student is a learning program organized by IMechE (Institution of Mechanical Engineers) in the UK to develop engineering talents of the future. More than 100 universities from all over Europe take part in the program, and several US and Australian universities are also involved.

AIC is a foundation promoted and backed by Biscay Provincial Council, Amorebieta-Etxano and Ermua city halls, a group of leading edge firms from the automotive industry and Basque automotive cluster ACICAE. AIC integrates knowledge, technology and industrial development under one umbrella in a bid to improve competitiveness in the industry.
