AIC backs Formula Student teams in Basque Country

Center signs agreement in support of future automotive professionals | 13/04/2010

Bilbao, 13.4.2010--- As part of its mission to support and promote future professionals for the automotive industry, AIC-Automotive Intelligence Center has signed an agreement to cooperate with Formula Student teams in the Basque Country (Formula Student Bizkaia and Tecnun Motorsport in Guipúzcoa).

Basically the agreement is a result of AIC’s bid to promote knowledge, training and research in the automotive industry. AIC pays particular attention to the new generations of engineers coming on to the labor market every year from university.

So this latest AIC initiative will be trying to help university students develop their own vehicles as a means of improving their understanding, skills and talents in areas like management, design, production and marketing within the car industry.

AIC also wants the Formula Student teams to work together and cooperate to become more competitive, reduce costs and learn to work in teams. This will make their insertion into the world of work that much easier when the time comes.

Under the agreement, these engineers of the future are to have an area at the AIC set aside for them to do their work. In July they will also begin work on a cooperation project designed to optimize their individual projects. Among other things, activities will include potential development analysis and joint purchasing and a study of Basque products for use in their projects.

Formula Student is a learning program organized by IMechE (Institution of Mechanical Engineers) in the UK to develop tomorrow’s engineering talents today. More than 100 universities from all over Europe, and some from further afield like Australia and the US, take part in the program.

AIC is a foundation promoted and backed by the Vizcaya Provincial Council, the Amorebieta-Etxano and Ermua city halls, a group of leading-edge firms from the automotive industry and Basque automotive cluster ACICAE. The center provides a home for activities involving knowledge, training, technology, and industrial development in its ongoing bid to facilitate improvements in competitive levels throughout the automotive industry.
