AIC and Tecnalia present in-wheel electric vehicle motor assembly
Technology provides more room in the vehicle, while making it easier to drive | 28/09/2015Bilbao, 28.9.2015--- On October 13 and 14 at AICs facilities in Amorebieta, AIC-Automotive Intelligence Center and TECNALIA are to present the latest technological innovation they have developed for the electric vehicle: the in-wheel motor assembly. The technology is the result of European project EUNICE (www.eunice-project.eu/) which they have been working on together for the last four years.
Designed to give more space inside the vehicle, the in-wheel motor would thus allow car makers to rethink the current concept of the electric vehicle, while making the actual process of driving that much easier.
During the project the team has designed, developed and validated a complete in-wheel motor assembly adapted to the needs of an electric vehicle. The assembly passed all thermal stress tests in extreme operation conditions successfully, as well as other tests on vehicle dynamics, driveability, safety and durability to demonstrate high modularization in the vehicle architecture.
European mobility using electric vehicles is now a key factor in working towards the sustainable society. However, despite the expected impact, there are still some technological hitches to overcome in energy storing and vehicle traction. Solutions based on the in-wheel motor are an enormous step forward in this respect, to the point of kick-starting a whole new generation of electric cars.
